Beautiful and unique… requires some TLC and assembly
Decided to wait a while before reviewing to get a more balanced impression of the clock after a bit of a rocky start.Short review: One of the coolest clocks Iâve owned in my life, always draws attention from visitors. The three-dimensional construction is very eye-catching⦠great colors too.On the other hand ⦠itâs not really âplug and playâ⦠some disassembly and assembly required⦠instructions are not very complete. Bit of trial and error is required.TL;DR review:- The shipping packaging was nearly destroyed ⦠but I guess it did its job by sacrificing itself because there was only a single minor crack on a nonstructural part of the clock that isnât very visible. However, canât use the box to ship it back if I wanted to.- The option for two different colored arms is great⦠two problems: – 1) Have to disassemble the clock to get access to the mounting shaft for whatever color arms you chose (my wife and I liked the black ones ⦠others thought they were too dark to see. Nice touch for them to offer a choice). Be sure that you reassemble the clock so the wall mounting bracket is at the top of the clock (I almost installed it 180 degrees off by accident⦠wouldâve been SO pissed if I had to disassemble just to flip it 180 degrees). Takes a bit of effort to carefully remove and replace all the screws on the back to disassemble / re-assemble. Take your time here⦠it would be easy to strip the screws if too aggressive and/or impatient. Not the right time to do this after an argument with your boss and/or wife or both, and 10 shots of Jameson. – 2) also no instructions included on how to synchronize the arms when installing. The minute arm is keyed to a set position on the inner shaft (two positions .. actually 180 degrees apart to be accurate ⦠doesnât matter which one you choose as youâll set it up to work later). The hour arm can be press-fit to any orientation (round hole, cylindrical shaft). My helpful hint: When assembling, when the clock face is still open and available, loosely mount the hour arm (donât fully seat yet) ⦠aim the minute arm at the 12 oâclock position using the knob on the back of the clock mechanism. Manually carefully move, align, and press the hour arm pointing to the exact same position. Thatâs either midnight or noon. Use the knob on the back of the clock assembly to slowly (takes a while) run the arms through a full 12-hour cycle. Why? I found that the arms were a bit bent, so every hour and 6 minutes or so, the arms would interfere with each other if not bent/straightened properly. Now re-assemble with all the screws and little plastic pieces. Then adjust the actual time using the little knob on the back of the clock to the current time (assuming batteries are already installed). Then they will rotate properly and look correct as it measures out each twelve-hour period.- Batteries. Donât use alkaline or lithium. They recommend âcarbonâ if you look at the fine print. I never heard of a carbon battery. And Iâm old. But also American. Then found out it refers to the very old-fashioned âzincâ batteries as known in various geographies. They pre-date modern batteries. Turns out after some research that alkaline batteries have more current capability (which is why they were invented to deal with modern equipment). But the time tracking mechanism in these clocks is not sophisticated and can be damaged, overloaded, or not accurate if using alkaline batteries. Mine was losing like 2-5 minutes per hour until I replaced the alkalines with the old-fashioned carbon/zinc type⦠now it might lose 2 or 3 minutes a week which is easy to correct via the knob on the back. Good enough for meâ¦Getting past the setup and tuning process above⦠the clock has been awesome. Very eye-catching. The three-dimensionality, and the turning gears, all while being very quiet has made this clock a favorite for me and my wife.I think they could sell these for a lot more if they had âplug and playâ fit and polish⦠and had more consistent packaging and production quality assurance, but then weâd all be paying a lot more for a cool clock. Consider it a collaboration with an artist.Cheers.

Beautiful wall clock
Love the look of the clock. It is very heavy and needs to be mounted into a stud. Ordered the clock in black but with the black hands itâs difficult to read the time, we will change out tbd hands. Also be aware that it needs to be hing away from a window as the light reflects in the glass cover.

Beautiful…so glad I purchased this.
This clock is so stunning. At almost 30″ it’s the perfect size for the area we selected. The gears move very slowly and it’s just so classy and sexy (if a clock can be sexy). I bought the Black Walnut which matches our furniture and a hint of reddish color in the center matches our hallway rugs, furniture, and the decorative plate on the hallway entry console. Hints of gold in the gears and Roman numerals match the gold/yellow colored dining room set in the connected dining room area. It just works. It takes three AA batteries. Two for the gears, and one for the time. It was packed very well. We did use a straw to blow out the styrofoam pieces that ended up on the inside. Not a big deal at all. Very pleased with this purchase. What would have taken it over the top, would be to light up somehow. Can’t see it in the dark, but it is still so worth it. Stunning!!!

Second clock was in better shape than first had to send it back, too!
After returning the first clock because it was received in damaged condition I was encouraged when I uncrated the replacement and it appeared to be in excellent shapeâ¦â¦until I put the batteries in. The gears worked as advertised and as I waited in anticipation for some movement from the minute hand, and waited and waited and waited some more, I accepted the reality that the heart of this beautiful timepiece was stillborn. Not one easily discouraged I believed the instruction sheetâs advice to message Amazon for âassistance â. That assistance was confined to my options on how to return it for a refund or exchange the item.I wastes about an hour searching the internet attempting to locate the Dorboker company, hoping to score a replacement battery box/clockwork. All queries led me back to Amazon or eBay for the clock or ones like it. Even a query for just the battery box/clockwork took me back to Amazon, where there are about 100+ similar sized mechanisms offered. Suffice it to say, Iâm not a clock repairman and if it takes more than replacing batteries to make a new clock work Iâll opt for in person brick and mortar clock shopping where I can kick the tires and take it for a test drive before I hang it on the living room wall.Would have loved to give this clock a better rating but 2 of 2 had to be returned and although it is very pleasing to look at, at best it is a broken clock. Tempus Fugit! Donât waste yours on this assault on a day well spent.

Purchased the 30â in gray and we couldnât be happier. The clock arrived early which was a pleasant surprise. Also, it was packaged very well. The quality is excellent and it has a very nice weight to it. Fantastic aesthetics. My husband said I knocked it out of the park with this purchase! If youâre interested, hesitate no more!!!

Love this clock
I like this clock very much! We get a little of compliments.Ended up purchasing led lights to show the mechanics and numerals better. Our wall is gray which made the area appear dark and difficult to see clearly. Liking is much better with the amazon led wireless remote lights!

After a long wait I finally received my clock and I am in love! It is nicer looking in person than I thought it would be and IMHO the quality leaves little room for complaint which, given what it costs ($319.99 plus $5.54 shipping as I type) is a good thing. I am not sure itâs current price tag is warranted, but the clock definitely makes a statement and doesnât look at all âcheapâ to me. It is made from real wood and metal and has a thin glass cover to make cleaning it fairly simple. The wood frame has a matte black finish that is dotted with bronze rivets and the gears are bronze too, I guess? Up close they appear sponge painted in a combination of silver and gold paint that gives an aged bronze-ish appearance. I absolutely love the clocks generous size and that it is totally silent- no annoying ticking sound! The vintage, industrial vibe is right up my alley too and a perfect complement to our homes decor. The clock came with an anchor and screw, so all you need is a drill and screwdriver to get it hung. It is fairly heavy so making sure it is secure on the wall is important- a nail isnât gonna do it. It runs on one AA battery. Like I said, I just received mine but for the past 45 minutes it has kept perfect time; fingers crossed that continues.

I love the steampunk style of this huge metal and wood clock! The thick black wood frame looks great with the rustic bronze gears and gold stud accents. The one flaw I didn’t notice right away was one stainless steel colored screw within the gear assembly whereas the other smaller screws are all bronze/copper coloured. I ended up using a black marker to camouflage the silver head of the screw so it’s not as noticeable anymore.Itâs 27 inches in diameter, so make sure it fits the wall space you intend to display it on, as itâs not your usual 11â wall clock. Itâs a dominating decorative and functional piece to add to your décor. The gears move smoothly and thereâs none of the annoying ticking sounds associated with cheap wall clocks, which I hate!Wall installation is simple as it has a typical keyhole hanger. Plan out where you want it to be and then use the provided screw and plastic wall anchor to hang it up, as the clock itself weighs ~12.5lbs. It runs off 3 AA batteries, 1 for the wall clock hands and the other 2 run the moving gears. It seems to keep time accurately so far, so itâs functional, and the craftsmanship is beautiful as well.
