A Remarkable Resource for Home Furnishing Design
Author and award-winning designer Scott Coley elegantly illustrates the history of home furnishings design and manufacturing methods. His thorough documentation of historic styles begins with 16th century English and French through to 20th century Scandinavian mid-century modern. He meticulously describes proportion systems, joinery techniques, veneering as well as numerous ornamentation details common across all the historic styles. Elements of Furniture Design is a must for the libraries of every furniture designer, scholar and enthusiast. Congratulations Scott on a wonderful book!

    Good 1850s Thomas Day Reference
This is a very informative book about a very narrow slice of furniture design. The title misled me to believe this was more comprehensive regarding furniture design. The title could have been ‘Thomas Day Furniture.’ The book has numerous ‘plates’ or figures (more than half the book) with a lot of information on proportion, but all as it relates to Thomas Day’s furniture from the 1850s. Overall disappointed in the content, but it will make a good addition to my woodworking library as there are a few good nuggets in there.

It is a treasure trove of knowledge shared beautifully.
This book provides a great deal of information about an ancient industry. The imagery throughout it is intriguing. I appreciated seeing so much of your work, general and specific design details, and especially the educational presentation informing the reader about the history and evolution of this profession. This book kept me turning pages. It is a treasure trove of knowledge shared beautifully. A work of art!Charlotte Cosby
