    Great overview
Great overview of Ellen’s design style and personal choices – photography is great, just enough supplemental text

I LOVE Ellen’s sense of design
I drool over every page. This book is gorgeous, I LOVE Ellen’s sense of design, so creative, natural, organic, spacious. And the text is like she’s talking to you, so down to earth — her funny, heartful, beautiful self. I use this book to get ideas for my home . . . how can I mimic aspects of what she’s doing on an infinately lower budget? With white walls, not cramping too much in, natural, organic colors and items, that’s how! Thank you Ellen!!! LOVE YOU and your design sense!!!

and I enjoyed the pictures and the text
The book was interesting to see, and I enjoyed the pictures and the text. However, after reading through only once, I came away with a feeling of slight arrogance on the part of Ellen, of course peppered with humor, but still I would have liked more insight as to her decorating choices, and not so much a list of high-end name dropping of manufacturers and designers. Although the book is entitled HOME, it fell short of the mark for me, and made me feel almost inadequate. I did enjoy the sections titled “What this house taught me”, and will re-read those again, along with advice from the other homeowners.

    Very nice coffee table book
I love Ellen and immediately bought this book when I heard a YouTuber mention it. It has some really beautiful design ideas. Well worth the purchase

    Home
An intimate and interesting vignette of several houses/homes that Ellen herself designed in collaboration with a few choice interior designers. Having worked with the Clements’ on another home (after rendering our client homeless with the purchase of their home). Disclaimer, I am possibly Ellen’s biggest fan after reading this work of art. I know the feeling of putting your all into designing and remodeling a house into a real home. She shatters the myth that a home is a member of the family. She fully documents how to view the home as it is – an experience meant to be enjoyed on every level, whatever that may mean to you. Well done and compelling title – Home.

Focuses strictly on mid-century design ONLY
This book is a compilation of 7 houses that Ellen purchased/lived in/decorated over the course of a number of years. There are also chapters devoted to individuals who she worked with on these houses — i.e., store owners, decorators, etc. The book is printed on good quality paper and there are lots of photos of full rooms. Photos are done very well and I like that they are either full or half room photos. I personally dislike design books that show things on a table, or a corner of a window, etc. and this book doesn’t do that. For every chapter on each home, Ellen gives some background about who the architect or builder was, who owned it previously, and how she came about buying it. Added to that in the narrative, she gives information on how the interior design came about. Also, at the end of each of those chapters, there is a page where she gives interesting recommendations on how she did approach the design. She seems very knowledgeable about design and has a keen eye for what she likes. I went through a lot of envy in seeing the photos — not from the mid-century style aspect, but the size of the homes she’s had.The reason I only gave my review 3 stars is because ALL of these homes are done in mid-century style with a very, very slight nod to rustic elements and couple of pieces leaning towards antique-y decor. Had I seen this book in a book store, I would not have purchased it. Personally, I am NOT a fan of mid-century design. If you are a fan of mid-century decor, then this is the book for you. If you are a fan of design books that offer diversity showing all types of styles, then save your money.

    Great thoughts, ideas and advice
I really love this book. The pictures are great and Ellen provides short summaries on each, of what she’s learned in designing that room. There are thoughts, ideas, advice and short summaries on What This House Taught Me. The book seems to be mostly Mid Century Modern and maybe elements of modern and rustic, but I think the tips Ellen provides translate into any style. Very happy with this purchase.

Read it from cover to cover in one sitting! Absolutely love Ellen’s style, found it very inspiring and it made me think even more that buying second hand is really the way forward. What character and style she instills in all her homes using such an eclectic mix of furniture, much of it out of my budget unfortunately but I think can be achieved in a similar way using flea market finds. Very entertaining to read too, Ellen writes like she speaks, love it!
