this is a perfect co-factor of nutrients
I’m guessing I had deficiency in vitamin b6 or my body cannot process the vitamin b3 niacin(the flush form) properly or my body has trouble converting tryptophan to melatonin and niacin, because oddly the ringing in my ear(Tinnitus) has stopped and I’m able to sleep.

Nice work, NOW Foods.
Trying to avoid any prescription sleep medication, I had found melatonin to be somewhat helpful over the years. I did research and realized that adding some B-6 to my dose at night REALLY helped how I felt in the morning. B-6 helps progesterone levels (via lowering prolactin) while melatonin can lower progesterone (via raising prolactin), and it made a huge difference to mitigate that progesterone-lowering effect of melatonin.Continuing my search, I saw this melatonin supplement that included B-6 and ALSO had a two-stage release. (Way to go NOW Foods on the B-6- why doesn’t anyone else talk about adding B-6 to melatonin to mitigate the progesterone-lowering effects? All we hear about is how we need progesterone.) I figured the two-stage release could only help…boy, did it. I usually wake at about 4am and have trouble getting back to sleep and this took care of that problem. But, this also has a form of niacin (Vitamin B-3), and I am not sure how much that is also creating the success I am experiencing. I just have to be careful of how much I take, because it has quite a bit of the B-3 in it. I like to take two pills, but that does take me pretty far over an RDA for B-3.It also has magnesium which I have regularly seen as helpful to take with melatonin and have always done so.I find this pretty amazing stuff and I am a tough customer as far as sleep aids. The most amazing thing is that I can have a busy evening and take this and sleep well- I have not found much to help when my system has not had time to settle down for long before bed.Note that the B-3 component does raise histamine according to what I read, but taking a quercetin/bromelain supplement can take care of that in the morning if I feel allergies. This is a very, very small price to me after so much struggle finding ways to get a good night’s sleep.

Avoid this melatonin product
I have historically had a good experience with the other Now brand products, however, this particular melatonin supplement completely backfired on me. It actually impeded my ability to fall asleep in a hard to describe, slightly miserable way⦠in contrast to a late night espresso which would. This experience is most likely related to the 100 mg of Niacin. Niacin is often associated with sleep disruption and vivid dreams/nightmares.

Worked for me!
I have major insomnia from a new terrible prescription. 30 minutes sleep first night, ran all day no need for sleep, don’t trust myself to drive like this, though, next night 8, next night 5 hours. Usually I’m strict 7-8 from 11ish to 730. Hate being off schedule. Dr said 2mg melatonin as I’m very sensitive. It’s working! They said take 30 minutes before bed but seems to take longer than that. Good product and it’s a good, reliable brand.
