Decent LED bulb with a fair price
Bulb provides enough light (800+ lumens) for a normal size (10’x10′) room.Light is bright and pleasant, providing cool day light (6500K) good for general areas, such as living rooms and summer. However, for cozy areas or winters you may like to get warmer colors (2700-3000K), and for bright, natural outdoor light feel you can get natural daylight (500-5400k) bulbs, though Philips in India currently seem to offer only cool day light in 10-11W range.Also, for larger spaces you need to get higher lumen bulbs (1200+), but again Philips does not seem to offer higher lumen LED bulbs here currently. (Edit Aug, 2014: Philips does offer higher lumen bulbs in India now – 12.5W and 14W – providing higher lumen. These are available on Amazon too.)Amazon delivery was quick, though I found packaging to be too thin for a bulb. I was scared to open the package, least I found a craushed bulb. Luckily bulb did survive.Amazon also needs to provide more details on the product. It does not provide lumen for most of the bulbs on site, making it difficult to compare cost efficiency of different products. Also warranty details are not provided. Local shops offer 2 year warranty on Philips LED bulb.And you may want to think about warranty repairs/replacement, as I’m sure buyer will have to contact manufacturer and get it repaired/replaced in case of defective products. Unlike the purchases from local light shop, where you can leave the product and shop owner will take the trouble of getting it replaced/repaired for you.Overall a good product, though price is still too high to make it value for money.

Bright light for 10 watt
LED bulb with B22 holder base is a good product by Phillips specially for india. Light is very bright. Light output is 806 lumen, brightness is comparable to 15-18 W CFL lamps (cool day light) by Philips.But, CFL lamps intensity deteriorate over short period of time (~4000 hours). If frequently turned on & off, CFLs can hardly last more than ~2000 hours .This is the main reason behind my purchase. I have installed the LED bulb in kitchen and want to watch its performance over time in damp, oily environment. CFL lamps in kitchen last hardly for an year or so, because of frequent on off cycle.The LED bulb is rated for 15000 hours. But I am quite skeptical about it, since we r living in an era where costly smartphones, laptops, televisions etc. falling in the price bracket of 40k-70k have unofficial life expectancy of 2 years.Let’s see how long it lasts and how far it can retain its brightness over time.Emitted light from this LED bulb is white (may be slightly bluish)(6500K). But in India, our eyes r accustomed with this type of light sources (tube lights, CFLs with slight greenish/bluish- white light), so it is not a problem at all.I personally don’t like warm white (actually yellowish orange) (2700K) colour so I will never buy that variety.Best colour according to me is Bright white (4500K-5000K), almost resembling the colour of a bright sunny day. Sadly this variant is unavailable at Amazon. I will be happy if it is made available here. This light sources (Bright white) is most soothing to eyes because of its natural resemblance.Mind it, this 10 watt LED bulb cannot be a replacement of a 40 watt tube. Light output from a 40 watt tube is 2600 lumen, where as this 10 watt LED bulb emits only 806 lumen. So three such 10 watt bulb (i.e 10×3 = 30 watt; 806×3 = 2418 lumen) is required to compensate a 40 watt tube. Again light from a Tubelight source is very diffused but LEDs are concentrated light source, so 3 10 watt LEDs in a room may cause eye strain. No higher wattage LED bulb is not available in India. But LED tubes with higher wattage and similar light output like a 40 watt tube is available. But I don’t know whether those can be fitted in a regular tube fixture.

Excellent next gen bulb – Wait for it to get cheaper
Small true story – My dad was a scientist with the defense forces, and predicted a day when bulbs would last for 15-20 years, and would consume very little electricity. He told me about the LED technology.So when i noticed these on Amazon, i purchased one just to see how they perform, since it seems like they are the next generation of technology, and Philips promises a bulb life of 15000 hours or so.At first glance, the light is uniform, bright, and does not produce any heat at all. Since it is a cool day light bulb, the light is very pleasing and uniformly lights areas.However, it isn’t recommended for larger rooms, since it is a point source, and may cause shadow formation. I have installed it in a medium sized room, and it is just perfect. However, if you have a lamp fixture – I heartily recommend this over CFL’s since these do NOT product UV light, or any heat.Overall, pleased. I would think the public would wait until they got cheaper – and i Hope they do quickly.I wouldn’t buy another even though they offer the life that they do – solely because, the marginal energy savings gains over CFL are negligible when compared to the immediate cost benefit.Update : I have been using this for a few months, and have seen products from cheap Chinese companies. It is highly recommended to get only Philips, since even a 12 Watt of another company can’t compare to the light that this bulb produces. It is substantially brighter than what a 12 Watt Chinese LED produces, AND this is more compact and beautiful to look at.
