With natural textures, rustic finishes and opulent antiques seeing a renaissance in our homes, this unique collection of enchanting French houses offers timeless inspiration.
From a chic and sophisticated Parisian pied-à-terre to an authentically restored Alpine ski lodge, from a grand château filled with antiques to a beach cottage in St Tropez, Romantic French Homes presents a stunning selection of homes. These 14 amazing properties sum up all that is French and romantic, from the streets of Paris to Mégève in the French Alps, from the coast of Normandy to the heart of Provence and the sun-baked shores of the Riviera. There are classic country houses, tiny boltholes, city apartments, quirky seaside homes, and more. Each home has its own character, reflecting the people who live there and their passions. The book is divided into four chapters: Châteaux, which covers castles, châteaux, grand country houses, and town houses; Bastides, which features old manors and farmhouses; Maisons Bohemes, which includes bohemian artists’, writers’ and seaside homes; and Paysannes and Pavilions, which focuses on small and simple town and country houses. With stunning photography capturing the grandeur, charm and mystery of these properties, their romance and sense of history shine through.
From the Publisher
Artist Joy de Rohan Chabot is particularly fond of nineteenth-century ceramics and has an extensive collection of faience barbotines and vases. The oil painting above the chimney is a portrait of Joy by Catalan artist Joaquim Torrents Llado.
A rustic-style “Norwegian” bathroom, named for its Norwegian pine walls, with a nineteenth-century claw foot bathtub.
The owners extended this kitchen into a theatrical turn-of-thecentury-style orangery for dining. The hanging metallic light fixture was designed by Jansen. All the hand-painted glassware on the table and the fanciful green “Chimères” candleholders were made by the artist.
This bedroom pays homage to its castle’s former resident, Guillaume de Julien, who gave the estate its present appearance. The prevailing Italian influence ranges from furnishings such as the ornate Sicilian throne armchair to the terrazzo marble flooring, invented in Venice.
The owners of this home were advised to lime-render the walls with a special mix of lavender and hemp, a frequently used technique of the region. Their friend and neighbor, Ian Harper, made the geometrically designed concrete floor.
The seventeenth-century orange-walled sunlit loggia, where many of the plants and furniture date to the 1950s, is a combination of North African and vintage design. The current owner, John-Mark Horton, has preserved this room—his favorite in the house—exactly as it was when Poteau and Clarke entertained here, from the brick flooring with marble inserts to the orange folding chairs, which belonged to Poteau.

Romantic French Homes
The author/producer of this wonderful book outdid herself with the text and especially the magnificent picture layout. This is accurate and visually exciting and has caused us to run to the computer to re-book air tickets to the south of France to visit our favorite villas! Buy this first for yourself and then buy additional copy’s for your friends. Highly recommended!

Good book, bad Amazon delivery
When the book finally arrived it was wonderful. However, the delivery date was delayed day after day after day after day which seems to be normal for Amazon these daysâ¦my advice..donât ever believe their delivery dates.

It’s Ok…needs more depth unless you just want a coffee table book
Kind of boring frankly. Needs something….it’s just a ride around France looking at homes that the author thinks are romantic..but why are they romantic..very little depth into why this home or Chateau was chosen over say that one.

French Decor
It’s an okay book. Not very interesting interiors and gardens which is what I always look for. Still, I recommend it for those that absolutely must look at French interiors.
