    A clear and simple approach to stress reduction
    I have a somatic app, but it’s somewhat expensive, so I wanted to give this book a try. I like how simple and clear the exercises are. There are not too many, and you can see that you will build up to a good routine with consistent progress. Some postures, such as the yoga ‘wheel’, made me laugh a bit as I’m unsure how many seniors could achieve them! It was reassuring that most of the poses are accessible and things I’ve done in various other exercise approaches I’ve tried. The pictures are helpful, and the explanations are specific to keep you on track.I recommend this as a gentle option to feel your way into a somatic exercise practice you can do in the privacy of your own home.

    Ideal for beginners to somatic pilates
    I have mobility issues and found most of these exercises doable as long as I slightly modified some of them. Easier exercises seem to be mentioned first in each section and there is an emphasis on breathing that helps reduce stress and produces calmness. I especially like the four week plan where one exercise is picked out for each day with each seventh day being a rest day. The pictures in the book are in color and similar to the picture on the cover. This book would probably have some unneeded information for people who are already pretty familiar with somatic Pilates.

    This book not only explains what Somatic Pilates are, but shows the benefits to adults, especially seniors in a variety of areas. I liked that they give you detailed instructions for many exercises, and additionally a 28 day plan to follow if you desire to get started. The activities are designed to be accessible and effective making them easy to follow. You don’t feel overwhelmed by this at all.

    I am approaching 60 and have been practising Pilates for a number of years now and I can attest to the health and mobility aspects of this exercise programme. What attracted me to this particular book was, the title; Somatic Pilates. I was curious to learn more about the mind-body connection between the exercises and the spiritual wellbeing of the individual. I enjoyed reading the overview of the nervous systems and about how pilates affects the parasympathetic nervous system in order to regulate heart rate, enhance digestion and reduce muscle tension, which in turn relaxes the body through controlling the breath. It wasn’t necessarily a revelation, but a timely reminder of the power of pilates in overall health, wellbeing and mobility. The exercises are deceptively simple, but incredibly powerful if followed on a regular basis. The 28 day programme is a gradual introduction to all the exercises over a reasonable time period and suitable for complete beginners or improvers. There is also a bonus reward of a Meal Plan for Weight Loss included in this purchase.
