    Love this book!
I found this book at the library and after skimming through it, immediately bought it! If you’re hooked on vintage and modern, you would love this – the photos are beautiful and fun and give reign to lots of creative ideas.

    collectible kitsch
The book is like a catalog for retro/vintage collectible kitsch. Lots of photos of items (biscuit tins, perfume bottles, enamel ware, etc). A few photos of actual homes with retro collectible items. Each decade from 1920s to 1990s are covered, with an overview/summary of major historical events, popular tastes, key decor defining the decade. I found this helpful. Restoration tips and Buyer Beware Tips are in yellow boxes, which is also helpful. The content format is nice and appealing to flip through.I deducted 1 star because the photos of actual homes w/collectibles are not that inspiring or chic. The collectible items allow you to BEGIN collecting, and is by no means exhaustive of all that is available, but the background information is definitely helpful if you are serious about collecting such items.I was surprised the author did not list websites such as Rubylane or 1st Dibs, which specializes and sells vintage items, but do not offer much in the way of provenance and history information.

    really nice book
This is a really nice book that captures the timeframes of which it is trying to show. I bought this for the mid century modern section and was not let down!

Good book, not exactly what I was looking for
I was hoping it would give more information about colors of walls, hardware, types of cupboards and countertops and flooring. It was more furniture styles. But still a good book.

Wonderful book – love the UK/US histories and gorgeous photos
I actually purchased this book because I’ve become obsessed with collecting mid-century fabrics and kitchen collectibles for our vintage travel trailer. I own a lot of “decorating” books and don’t have a strong tolerance for useless “pretty pictures” of flowers and rooms that rely on furniture I don’t have and never will. This book really stands out – gorgeous pictures of detailed rooms – I notice something new every time I look through this book. The author gives interesting back stories on manufacturers and uses of collectibles, furniture and fabrics – and gives a unique perspective of both the U.S. and the U.K.. My new favorite book, highly recommended for those who love vintage.

    Beautiful pictures of vintage stuff
Arrived a day early. Brand new book in perfect condition for less than 10 dollars including shipping and tax! This book contains a lot of information and dozens of photos. It’s a great gift for any vintage fan. It’s from England, though, so there were a few things mentioned that I never heard of.

Cute book bought it as a gift

Excellent book, and a great resource. Not just a ‘these are the items from this era’ book, but also a social commentary of the times. Most interesting.

Great book with lots of very good photography guiding you through vintage living from the 1920s to 1990s. This book is so much more than just a ‘flick through’ coffee table ornament – it shows you how even small injections of vintage can work in your home and makes it achievable for all. It gives you background information on items you may already own or would like to and style tips on how you can display them to their best. It covers the whole house including more unusual areas such as halls, children’s bedrooms, study and the garden. It gives very handy (and tested) restoration and cleaning tips. To top it off it is based on actual people’s homes – and who doesn’t like a nose in others houses?! Great as a gift but even better for yourself.

I found the style and the pictures very outdated, and that’s coming from someone who’s very passionate about vintage and antique decor. It appeared to be a very ‘grandma’ style and didn’t feel relevant for anyone under 50.

I pre-ordered this book as I love having a nosey at others houses and try to live as much of a vintage life as possible and was really pleased when it arrived. There are lots of vintage lifestyle books and magazines popping up all over the place at the moment but out of all of them I would recommend this. The combination of real peoples homes and then photographs of iconic pieces to look out for yourself works really well. The writing is informative and interesting and much more than just a coffee table book, actually a really good read. The way the book is laid out makes it easy for you to dip in and out of different eras but I actually just read it from beginning to end and enjoyed it very much. Highly recommended for anyone new to vintage as a good guide to getting the style of different eras, but also interesting for the more experienced vintage lover. There is one slight problem though, I am now terribly jealous of the homes photographed!
