Award-winningdesigner Paloma Contreras’s guide to pairing traditional style with modern design to create classic interiors with a touch of glamour and an infusion of color.
Foreword by India Hicks
In The New Classic Home, beloved designer Paloma Contreras focuses her sought-after expertise on one of the most desired yet difficult tasks in decorating: how to design a space that successfully mixes traditional and modern elements. How does one bridge the gap between such different concepts? By walking readers through her four main techniques—color, texture & pattern, scale & proportion, and tension—Contreras demonstrates how to successfully pair seemingly disparate pieces from different eras and styles to create harmonious, timeless, and balanced interiors.
With spectacular color photography and personalized design tips, The New Classic Home divulges how to blend vintage pieces into even the most contemporary settings, highlight favorite elements of any architectural style, freshen classic silhouettes, and create layered, interesting spaces that always include an element of modern surprise with a touch of elegant antiquity.

Beautiful and Inspiring
This is such a perfect home decor book. Paloma walks you through her design process for each one of these spaces and shares the story and history of the homes. I have read it front to back twice already since I received it and continue to come back to reference the pages for design inspiration for my own home. This book and her most recent projects nail a traditional style with edge and I am here for it! This is a must-have in my opinion if you are a design book lover, and it looks beautiful in my family room!

Traditional design â¤ï¸
This is another beautiful book about traditional design, that very few can afford. There are a few take aways about rooms I didn’t know, overall nothing new… Not a stitch of Rose Medallion on any pages, very disappointing. Lol

Beautiful photobook of previously published work
I have followed Paloma Contreras’ design career for nearly 10 years, first through her blog and later instagram, her first book, and various publications. Her work is beautiful, full stop. And the images in her second book are, themselves, beautiful. However, I felt disappointed flipping through her book today (which I was so excited for I opened the package as soon as it arrived while on a Zoom meeting) to find that very little in it is new. This is a challenge of the social media age, to be sure, and I’m not sure how designers or photographers balance demands for new content on social media with reserving new content for publication. The book is organized by projects–13 of them–including three prior showhouse rooms, a project recently published in a magazine, her previous home and store/office. Of those 13 projects, there was only one that I didn’t recognize. Every other project has been extensively shared via her instagram. I love those beautiful projects and have loved seeing them on social media, but I was disappointed to find that very little “new” was reserved for the book. I don’t mean to take away from her beautiful book and beautiful body of work, but (for me) the photos are the most special part of a design book and I wish there had been more new photos for me to pore over. Instead I flipped through, said “that’s it?” and closed it.
