Want: Sexual Fantasies by Anonymous

$14.00$28.00 (-50%)

An instant New York Times bestseller, Want is a collection of confessions from women around the world. This revelatory, sensational and game-changing exploration of women’s sexuality asks, and answers: How do women feel about sex when they have the freedom to be totally anonymous?

What do you want, when no one is watching?
What do you want, when the lights are off?
What do you want, when you are anonymous?

When we talk about sex, we talk about womanhood and motherhood, infidelity and exploitation, consent and respect, fairness and egalitarianism, love and hate, pleasure and pain.

And yet for many reasons—some complicated, some not—so many of us don’t talk about it. Our deepest, most intimate fears and fantasies remain locked away inside of us, until someone comes along with the key.

Here’s the key.

In this generation-defining book, Gillian Anderson collects and introduces the anonymous letters of hundreds of self-identifying women from around the world (along with her own anonymous letter).

From a Sikh woman who writes about her secret lust for her brother-in-law, an Apache American woman who wants to be worshipped like a divine creature, a white British woman who just wants to be properly kissed one last time, another who likes to role play as a panther, or a Hispanic Jewish woman living in Bangladesh, for whom the pinnacle of sexual arousal is a doorknob, Want reveals how women feel about sex when they have the freedom to be totally anonymous.

    Great gift !
    Entertaining and witty

  2. by Louella Mahabir

    Spicy
Not too risqué but I’m guessing there were limitations. I loved it.

  3. by Shopsalot

It is a collection, not stories
It’s just okay, just demographics and women describing their fantasies, which are then grouped. It’s not interesting but nor is it uninteresting. It depends on what you expect out of it. Nothing to learn, nothing to follow. More like case studies.

It enlighten me on the subject.
It was helpful for me personally.

    Lacks Diversity
I was very excited to see a book like this coming out in honor of women, so to speak. However, I was really disappointed to see that only eight stories of the 174 were by women who identified as black, Afro Caribbean, or African-American; it works out to be a little less than 5%. The population of Black people in the United Kingdom in the United States makes up a significantly larger percentage of the respective populations. Often, black women are pushed aside and forgotten, and it’s really disappointing to see that this was also the case here. It honestly just turned me off from reading anything else in the book. It’s really difficult to enjoy something that feels like it wasn’t written for someone like me to enjoy. In the future, it would be nice to have better representation.

    fun and intriguing
I think it’s so fun to get the opportunity to step into the ideas of others and discover new things we might never have considered. Really enjoyed this one!

    Arrived dirty?
Newly released book and it arrived dirty and ink-smudged. Bummed. Content of book is excellent.

    Too long
I love the idea of this but it’s just toooo long. Some great letters, definitely a cool peek into others’ ideas, thoughts, feelings, and desires. I also didn’t love the writing in between chapters/themes. The idea was there but it felt like I was reading a blog.I definitely considered closing the book early (which is a very hard choice for this perfectionist!) because I was over it, but ended up skimming and skipping instead (I think more to keep myself from going bananas than due to continued interest in the book).

Honest statements from real women. You will find some of great direct interest to you, some may be new ideas, some shocking, lots entertaining. Excellent read for anyone who is interested in human nature. Prudes and bigots beware. Recommended

  10. by Dave

Very underwhelming in general, but specifically a) obviously pandering to the usual suspects to the point some letters are literal nonsense and you WILL skip them after reading 3 lined. b) if youre a dude like me thinking it might have some secret knowledge it absolutely does not, its all dull and normie. There is one story that is almost sci fi, and that one is pretty cool.. but thats about it. Evidently the majority of these were sent by the least sexual persons out there and it shows, but Im hoping that was kind of the point. Noble idea but its super boring and most reviews dont mention how much silly gender is a spectrum social studies buzz words are filling the many many many pages and it goes nowhere.

I do not understand the complaints from some people. It is not vanilla- there’s bdsm, spanking, milking, gender bending, fetishes, lesbian and trans representation, even alien tentacles. No language is omitted. The only things omitted purposefully are things that would be illegal/wrong. What exactly do some people want!? Maybe you should write your own letters or books and not bash other peoples’ so. I also dont get the complaints from people disappointed its not all by Gillian or that its not a story. The book description is accurate and literally every time Gillian has spoken about the book she has explained its a book of letters, and that hers is anonymously hidden amonst them. I think this type of book is important for lots of women to read and its a shame some feel the need to ruin the reviews so that they may be less inclined to.

Enjoying this. Might open up some interesting conversations 💞

Though they are people letters, would have loved some editing. It was hard to read, long stories mostly without point.
